5 Tips to Practice Mindfulness
Through my own journey of meditation, I have developed these 5 tips to keep in mind when creating your own mindfulness practice.
Be intentional. Set aside time, space, and effort to practice. It helps if it is the same time every day so try a few ways to see what works for you
Observe without judgement. Try to not judge yourself, thoughts, or mindful practice. Can also practice this in everyday life and interactions
Be still. Allow yourself some time to just be still and just be. See what happens when you stop feeling the need to do everything and be everywhere all the time
Be present. Most of us live in the future or the past, whether planning for future goals, worrying about what is to come or being consumed by what we’ve done, or should’ve/could’ve/would’ve done
Space & Grace. Give yourself space and grace to grow, know that this is a journey, not a one-time thing and that it takes time. Even seasoned meditators or mindful practitioners have their days. Let go of your attachment to the outcome and how this should look or how you should feel.
Mindfulness is not a monolith, and your practice doesn’t have to be either. You don’t have to sit still with legs crossed like the Buddha, you can try breathwork, yoga, mindful eating, mindful walking, mindful movement, reading, etc. The list is infinite. How can you practice, or do you practice mindfulness in your every day?
***Remember, there is no wrong way to be you or to give yourself what you need.
